HEART DISEASES
• According to WHO : Every year around 2 million people in India die of cardiovascular diseases
• 32 percent of these deaths are in the age group of 35-44 years
• More and more younger people are falling prey to life threatening diseases
• One in every seven persons who die of heart ailments in the world is an Indian
• The number of people with cardiovascular diseases in India is estimated to rise to 6.41 crores in 2015 from 3.80 crores in 2005
• According to WHO by 2015, there would be 100 % rise in deaths due to cardiac ailments in India.
• 50 % of heart patients in India are under 45 years of age. Heart attacks in India occur 10 years earlier than in the west
• Hypertension, Diabetes and Cholesterol increases the risk of getting heart disease
• 38 % of Indians i.e. 2 out of every 5 Indians have high cholesterol
HYPERTENSION
• 1 in 5 Mumbaikars suffer from hypertension which leads to strokes, heart attacks, kidney failures, etc.
• 70 % of Mumbaikars suffer from mild hypertension. If it is not treated then it will lead to severe hypertension
• Diabetes and Hypertension are the major causes of kidney failure
• The worst thing about hypertension is that people are not likely to realise that they have hypertension until it leads to organ failure.

DIABETES
• India is having the highest no. of diabetic patients in the world
• India has earned the dubious distinction of being the world capital for Diabetes, Hypertension and Heart ailments
• In India 40 million people are suffering from diabetes. It is expected to double by 2030
• Diabetes is a life long disease, thus decreasing the quality of life. The life expectancy of a diabetic patient is reduced to a great extent as the patients are more likely to succumb to kidney or heart diseases
• Diabetes can damage many parts of the body, such as the heart, blood vessels, eyes, and kidneys. Heart and blood vessel disease can lead to heart attacks and strokes.
